2016, Turns In Form
VivaExCon, Iloilo City
The exhibition of contemporary art for Viva 2016 is built around the need to reflect on the question of how forms materialize, how they transpire, how they play out. It wishes to revisit how artists are formed, too, through seasons of learning and unlearning, responding to the demands of the vocation and the potentials of skill. Skill her is paramount but it is not seen as a mere technique. It is rather regarded as a way to translate the vast lifeworld surrounding the artist into form. It is therefore a process of looking and finding, of asking and knowing, of fulfilling and failing, of conversing with other who also seek. In other words, it is a procedure of research that requires both intuition and discourse, a mindful body, and alert sensibility, a a skeptical, sympathetic attitude. Such research can only be intimate and intensive, shaping an art that transforms, that turns and moves.
